Union county is nestled in the gently rolling hills of the North Carolina Piedmont and just a few minutes south of Charlotte. Union county is and has been one of the fastest growing counties in the state. The west side of the county used to be considered ‘horse country’ but with abundant land available for new neighbors and excellent schools, the west side fo the county has been responsible for the majority of Union county’s growth. Union county is also home to the much anticipated, yearly Queens Cup Steeplechase. In true equestrian derby fashion, thousands come each year to enjoy watching thoroughbreds competing at speeds up to 30 miles per hour, the jockeys in their bright colored silks pushing their sleek steeds to clear four and a half foot jumps around the three mile rolling turf course. Family and friends come in fine derby attire and enjoy fast-paced mingling, socializing and watching the race champion bask in the glory of the winner’s circle. Conveniently located, Providence Road runs from Uptown Charlotte south, deep into Union county, through the very desirable Weddington area, into the historic and charming town of Waxhaw.
